I must admit, I simply love to make slime. It’s such an easy project and it gives me something to play with during zoom calls (off-screen, of course).
Now since I’m a big fan of glitter and all things shimmery, I wanted to try to make metallic and glitter slimes. And what better way than to go straight for the gold…slime! And apparently I can’t just make one gold slime so I made three different variations to choose from.
If you’re more into the classic look, check out this green slime recipe. And for something unique, there’s color changing slime, snow slime, cloud slime, fluffy slime, and crystal clear slime. Or if you want to have your slime and eat it too, try making edible slime.

Instructions to Make Metallic Gold Slime
Make the Slime Activator
First, you want to make the slime activator. Combine 1 cup of warm water with 1 tsp of borax.
Stir it until the borax is completely dissolved and set it aside.
Make the Gold Slime Base
Pour about a cup of clear PVA glue into a bowl.
Add some metallic gold paint. Be sure to get paint that specifies metallic so that it has some reflective qualities. Otherwise your slime will be more like yellow or brown slime instead of a vibrant gold.
Mix it together and feel free to add more paint until you get the color you like. I used probably 1-2 tablespoons of paint.
Activate the Gold Slime
Once you have the color you like, mix in the slime activator. Start with a little bit at a time (~1 teaspoon).
Stir until it starts to form a ball. Then take it out and work it with your hands.
It will likely be a little clumpy to start, but continue to stretch and squish it. Eventually it will turn into smooth metallic gold slime!
I just love how vibrant the gold is and how it catches the light.

More Gold Slimes
I was curious how it would look if I used white glue instead of clear and then how it would look with glitter to give it some extra sparkle.
Gold Glitter Slime
To make this gold glitter slime, use the clear glue but don’t add any paint. Instead add gold glitter! (This is a biodegradable one)
Continue to add as much glitter as you want. Just know that the more glitter you add, the more you will want to work it. You may also need to add extra water. This is because the glue sticks to the glitter and become hard instead of a nice stretchy slime.
I absolutely love this gold glitter slime! And it’s super fun to stretch it out and see through the clear slime.
Gold Slime Using White Glue
Since I used the clear glue, I was curious how using white glue instead would look. This is also for those who may only have white glue on hand. So don’t worry, yes, you can still make it with white glue.
Therefore instead of clear glue, use white glue. But still add gold paint.
I found for this one I needed to add more gold paint and even yellow food coloring to get a nice gold color. The white definitely makes the colors more faded.
Then just for fun, I added some of the gold glitter. However, I don’t recommend using glitter and white glue together if you’re trying to get a sparkle effect.
You can see the glitter if you look closely, but it’s more like dots rather than sparkles.
And because I had to use so much gold paint, it got all over my hands.
Since I love glitter and all things sparkle and shimmer, I personally love that I ended up turning gold! But if you don’t want that happening, I definitely recommend using clear glue to make metallic gold slime or glitter slime.
But yes, gold slime can still be made with white glue. You’ll just have a golden moment that can easily be washed off with soap!
