Learn how to make candy Ring Pops two ways – make them in minutes with just one ingredient or learn how to make them from scratch.

Table of Contents

For a long time lollipops have been my favorite type of candy (not including chocolate in that definition of “candy”). Then candy with some sort of function was even better so absolutely, I was a huge fan of edible jewelry and therefore, Ring Pops.

Also, can we pause to think about the fact that they’re hands free! In fact, right now I may or may not be wearing a Ring Pop as I type this. For this reason, I truly do not understand why Ring Pops are not more popular with adults.

Now I have two approaches to DIY Ring Pops – the quick and easy way or the more “authentic” way. It’s simply a matter of if you’d like to get the shape or if you want to learn how to make candy from scratch.

Ring Pop Recipes

Quick and Easy Ring Pops

Ingredients

  • Hard candy (I used Jolly Ranchers) – Amazon
  • Jewel silicone mold (this is the one I have)
  • The clean plastic part from an already eaten ring pop or an actual ring that is food-safe (metal or plastic) – Amazon
  • Latex gloves – Amazon

Video Instructions

Step by Step Instructions

Unwrap several of your hard candies and place them into a microwave-safe bowl. You can make them all one flavor or combine flavors and colors. Just be careful not to choose too many colors or instead of having distinct colors, you’ll end up making brown.

The number of candies to use depends on their size and the size of mold you’re going to use. For example, I used 5 Jolly Ranchers and that made 2 full-sized Ring Pops.

Put on your latex gloves and microwave the candy in 10 second increments until it is all melted. Be careful not to overheat it or the candy will burn.

Ring Pops from Scratch

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 1/3 Cup Corn Syrup
  • 1/2 Cup Water
  • Food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon flavor extract (I chose orange and vanilla for an orange creamsicle flavor, but choose your favorite candy flavoring)
  • Jewel silicone mold – This is the one I have
  • The clean plastic part from an already eaten ring pop or use an actual ring that is food-safe (metal or plastic) – Amazon
  • Latex gloves – Amazon

Start by mixing the sugar, corn syrup, and water in a medium saucepan.

Place over medium-high heat and attach a candy thermometer. Once the sugar crystals are melted, leave it alone.

As the mixture comes to a boil, put on latex gloves and wipe down the sides of the pan with a pastry brush dipped in water. You need to remove any mixture or crystals that have stuck to the sides. If you don’t do this, it could cause your whole mixture to crystalize, ruining it.

Let the mixture cook until the temperature reaches 300 F (149 C) and then put the pot into an ice bath to prevent further cooking.

Once it has stopped bubbling, you can add your food coloring and flavoring. Mix it thoroughly to combine.

Pour into the mold, filling it all the way to the top. Even though you should be wearing gloves, still be VERY careful to not get any on yourself. (Speaking from experience, sugar burns are no joke)

While the candy is still melted, place the plastic Ring Pop backing or the food-safe ring on top of the mold. Make sure it is touching the melted candy as when it cools, it will stick to the ring.

Let it cool.

Remove your finished ring pop from the mold, and enjoy!
