Instructions to Make Plantable Seed Paper Valentine Cards

Print and cut out your cards. You want to leave room for the seed paper to be attached on the front. Then planting instructions will go on the back.

You can make your own cards or use the ones I made with this free printable template. When printing, be sure to print it double-sided so that the instructions end up right side up on the back of each card.

Next, take your seed paper and cut it into different shapes. I liked to keep with the Valentine’s theme and cut them into hearts. If you haven’t yet made your seed paper, check out this post to make your own!

Tip: When cutting, be careful to cut around the seeds. If you cut through the seeds then they won’t grow.

Now your seed paper cards are ready for gifting! When spring arrives, the seed paper hearts can be planted in soil, watered, and grown into flowers or herbs (depending on the seeds you use).

I personally love the gardening x Valentine’s puns, but feel free to get creative with your own phrases! And if you make your own, I’d love to see them!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you plant seed paper cards?

Place directly on soil in the garden in a sunny location. Cover with no more than a
¼ inch of soil. Water thoroughly and continue to keep moist until seedlings are established.

It can also be started in a pot in a sunny location and transplanted.

What kind of seeds work best in seed paper cards?

I personally love to use wildflower seeds or native plant seeds. The best seeds are ones that don’t require cold stratification (so those that can be planted any time starting in spring). Herbs also work great! I have a collection of some of my favorite seeds on Amazon.

Will cutting seed paper damage the seeds?

Yes, if you cut right through a seed! That’s why you want to make sure you’re being extra careful when cutting the seed paper into shapes.
