If you’re a Pokemon fan, you’re probably like me and have always wanted to have real Pokeball. In my opinion, the next best thing is a version you can eat!

I had this fun food craft idea to make a rice krispie treat in the shape of a Pokeball so first made a classic giant rice krispie treat that’s flat. Then I thought, why not make one that’s actually 3D?! It was surprisingly easy to do so now you can learn how to make both and choose your favorite!

You can have a whole Pokeball themed party and serve them with some Pokeball cookies and make some Pokeball guest soaps and bath bombs!

Instructions to Make the Mixtures for the Pokemon Rice Krispie Treats

Making the different colored mixtures is the same process for both types. Once you have your mixes ready, then you can choose which type of Pokeball you want to make (or make both)!

With the mixture, you’ll be able to make 6-8 3D pokeballs or 1 flat giant rice krispie treat pokeball.

Make the Plain Mixture for the Pokemon Rice Krispie Treats

The classic rice krispie treat recipe uses 10 oz of marshmallows and 3 Tbs of butter. The plain (or white) color is slightly less than half the amount. I eyeball it, but if you want to use more precise measurements, you can do 4.5 oz of marshmallows and 1 Tbs + 1 tsp of butter. The goal is to get a mixture that has some amount of fat in it from the butter so it has a smoother texture.

Add them to a bowl and microwave on 10 second increments until the butter is melted.

By the way, I personally like to get the 12oz bag of marshmallows so I can much on a couple of them!

Use a spatula to mix the butter and marshmallow together.

Add in the rice krispies. In the classic recipe, you’ll use 6 cups of rice krispies cereal (this is less than the whole box). So since we’re making just under half the recipe for the white color, use 2 and 3/4 cups of cereal.

Use the spatula to gently fold in the cereal so that it’s completely coated. Then set it aside.

Tip: Be gentle when mixing so you don’t smash the cereal.

Make the Red Mixture for the Pokemon Rice Krispie Treats

In another bowl, you’ll make the red rice krispie mixture. There’s slightly less red than there is white so if using measurements, use 4 oz of marshmallows and 1.25 Tbs of butter.

Prepare it the same way – melting the marshmallows and butter and mixing them. Then add in the food coloring (I like to use gel food coloring) until it’s a bright red color.

Then mix in the cereal. It will likely be around 2.5 cups of cereal. Set aside.

Make the Black Mixture for the Pokemon Rice Krispie Treats

Now it’s time for the black rice krispie treat mixture. You’ll make it the same way as the red one, but using black food coloring instead (I like to use the concentrated gel color).

Since you need even less of the black, you’ll use roughly 1.5 oz of marshmallows and 1/2 Tbs of butter.

Then add in roughly 1 cup of cereal. Set aside.

Now with the mixtures made, you can choose which type of Pokemon rice krispie treat you’d like to make:

Place the silicone mold on the table (note that I’m using a death star mold, but you can use a normal sphere mold like this one). Spray it with cooking spray.

Fill one half with the plain mixture and the other with the red mixture.

Cover one side with a layer of the black mixture (I covered the red side). Press your finger in to make make a small indent. This will shape the circle around the button.

Then on the other, add a small amount of the black mixture in one spot on the edge. And again, use your finger to make a small indent.

Take a small amount of the plain mixture and fill in the indents on both sides.

Tip: It can help to slightly overfill each half of the mold. This way they will compress and halves will more easily stick to each other.

Then line up the two halves and gently squeeze the mold together.

Then carefully remove the pokeball rice krispie treat.

Spray the cake pan with cooking spray (I like to use a 9 inch pan).

Reserve ~1/2 cup of the plain mixture. Then press the rest of it into the cake pan. Press it to one side, just less than half way. Then shape a half circle in the middle.

Tip: Spray your hands with cooking spray so they don’t stick to the rice krispie treat mixture.

Do the same thing on the opposite side of the pan with all of the red mixture.

You should have an empty stripe down the middle of the pan and an empty circle in the middle.

Tip: Be careful with the black mixture as it can easily dye the others.

Now your giant Pokeball rice rice krispie treat is ready to serve!

Tip for Serving: I recommend serving it by cutting it like a cake – use a knife to cut from the center to the edge.

You could also make individual Pokemon rice krispie treats by making these the same way, but using a round cookie cutter (like this one) to shape it.
